Our First Success

Even though we’ve moved out of Test Mode and can now run LIVE crowdfunding campaigns on our site, we’re still in BETA mode, and have not officially launched yet.

For the next several weeks every new campaign will be another test of the system. The CommunityFunded.com platform is still in active development, and with each new campaign we expect there will be glitches, missing steps, broken links, and more. Nothing that will prevent us from moving ahead — just the normal state of anything with great potential while it’s still in development.

SUCCESS!

But we want to celebrate our first success — the completion of our first actual real crowdfunding campaign! We won’t leave you guessing. YES we achieved our goal.

The “Goshen Funded Pre-Launch Party” campaign is now in the Past Projects section of our Campaigns page. One look and you can see that we not only surpassed our fundraising goal ($400), we blew past it and raised over 85% more. We raised $743 from 25 contributors! That is an awesome start. It gave us sufficient funds to throw a nice party for everyone involved, and brought in some working capital to help this site grow.

PARTY!

Our party took place at Art House with about 30 people turning out for treats & beverages, Q & A, and an inspirational video on the big screen.

It’s not easy wrapping your mind around the crowdfunding process, and most of us are new to the whole thing; never done it before. It’s a really different way to do fundraising. So a good bit of the talk at our party was about what our businesses or organizations need, what’s appropriate (or not) for a crowdfunding campaign, what makes campaigns successful, and who will be able to use this site most effectively.

UP NEXT…

Ok, raised some starter funding, had a groovy party, what’s next? We have an information meeting scheduled for TOMORROW Thursday evening October 2, 2014 at 7pm at Better World Books, downtown Goshen. Meet us downstairs on the basement level. Come with your ideas and questions, and if we put our minds together everyone will hopefully have an action plan for either

  • your own first crowdfunding Project that you can begin developing in your Community Funded account, or
  • Reward that you can offer to other upcoming Projects as they begin appearing on our site.

Hope you can make it – see you tomorrow.

In Testing Mode

Currently this site is in testing mode. Ben and Phil and I are working to get a test campaign configured and launched so that it will appear on our Campaigns page. At the same time, it looks like Community Funded is working to add features, write documentation, and troubleshoot problems. In other words, there’s a lot happening but not a whole lot to show for it yet.

If you would like to help us test and make progress and push this site towards a Live Launch in the near future, the the first thing you’ll need to do is create your own business or individual account at Community Funded.

Once you have a Community Funded account, you will be able to create your own test campaign (also known as a “Project.”) Doing so will help you understand what it takes to create a real crowdfunding campaign in the future, once our site goes live.

In addition to creating Projects (fundraising campaigns) you can create Rewards. These are “perks” that you can offer to Contributors. Contributors are the people and other organization in our local community who support your campaign by making a donation. Some contributors will give freely because they want to see you accomplish your goals. Others will be encouraged to contribute because they get something in return. For example, you create a $10 Gift Certificate Reward with $1 going to fund your campaign. That’s the general idea.

Where it gets really interesting is that you can Sponsor other local community campaigns with your Rewards. So now business A creates a Reward and offers it to a campaign that business B has launched. That helps attract more contributions for B‘s campaign; it also helps create more brand awareness and positive vibes for A. Neat, huh?

Since we are still just getting started at this point, any campaigns appearing on our Campaigns page are in “test mode” and not real actual projects. But NOW is the time to start dreaming about what you reeeeeally want to do on this site when it goes live. Ladies and gentlemen, start your imagination engines!
